International
Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year and all over the world. This
event is a great combination of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day. The first
Women’s Day was celebrated on 28 February 1909 in the USA. Inspired by the
American women’s, who were fighting for their rights, the German lady Klara
Zetkin organized the first International Women's Day in 1911. On March 19, the
same year a socialists from Germany, Austria, Denmark and other European
countries held strikes and marches. In addition to the right to vote and to
hold public office, they demanded the right to work, to vocational training and
to an end to discrimination on the job.
Less than a week later, on 25 March, the tragic Triangle Fire in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working girls, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This event had a significant impact on labor legislation in the United States, and the working conditions leading up to the disasters were invoked during subsequent observances of International Women's Day.
Sixty four years after that incident – the United Nations was starting to sponsored the International Women's Day and 1975 was called the International Women’s Year.
In some countries this day is not official event, but it is still celebrated by the women’s. On this day is considered to give a gifts or just a flower to your special women’s in life – mothers, grandmothers, wives, daughters, sisters and girlfriends. In Bulgaria and Romania this day is compared with Mother’s Day.
